MEDYSKIN Glycolic Cream

Price/Packaging:

I've found this product at TJMaxx for just 8$ for 50ml (1.7fl.oz). The retail price listed is 48$. However you can find this cream on amazon.com for ~23$ (which is a good price for this product). The bottle (with pump dispenser) is very well made and almost completely covered by the label (which gives protection from sun exposure).

Ingredients:

Water, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Lycium Barbarum (Goji) Extract, Coffee Seed Extract, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Extract, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Extract, Pomegranate Extract, Camellia Sinesis (Green Tea) Extract, Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen) Extract, PEG-100 Stearate, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 80, Triethanolamine, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Patassium Sorbate, Hexylene Glycol.

Excellent (very beneficial ingredients, proven research)
Good (moderately beneficial ingredients, not extensive research available or just not quite outstanding properties)
OK (mostly thickeners, emulsifiers, mild preservatives, pH adjusters, all that is necessary formulation wise, but not a skincare per se)
Bad (anything that shouldn't be in skincare, irritants and fragrance)

Ingredients Discussion:

I am getting more and more impressed with the Medyskin brand after each product I try. With the exception of their oil blends, each product is so well balanced and the company does not feel stingy with including multiple beneficial ingredients.
The main ingredient here is of course the glycolic acid (one of AHAs), which is a leave on exfoliant. The many benefits it has also includes stimulation of collagen production (wrinkle reduction), making it an excellent anti-aging ingredient. Unfortunately there is no indication anywhere on the packaging what concentration you are dealing with here. But I assume that being second on the ingredient list, it should be somewhere over 2-3% concentration. Since I usually experience mild stinging when I use products with glycolic acid over 8%, and I do not feel any stinging with this treatment, I assume there is less than 8% in here. Probably 5% would be a safe bet. Which should be sufficient to gently exfoliate the skin from top layer of sun damaged skin cells to reveal smother skin and lighten hyper-pigmentation.
The rest of the formulation is noteworthy as well. There are few moisturizing/water binding ingredient, like glycerin, dimethicone and mineral oil. But very importantly there are quite a few antioxidants in here: extracts of goji, coffee seed, acai, noni, pomegranate, green tea and mangosteen. In my opinion a good anti-aging product should not be made without antioxidants, which greatly reduce free-radical damage and environmental stress on skin.
The inclusion of fragrance brings down this product a bit. But the fragrance is not strong and is listed very close to the bottom of the ingredient list (and definitely after all of the antioxidants).
Overall this treatment definitely can deliver the promised results: diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, help clarify the skin and hydrate it.

Consumer thoughts:

I typically use this exfoliant twice a week and so far I didn't have any irritation from it (I think I can even safely use it every other day). It has cream texture, but it is not too heavy/emollient, which will suite most skin types (as promised in the product description). It does leave a bit of a white film on the skin for the first few minutes, but then it disappears (and it does not bother me too much). I am completely satisfied with this treatment, and I have repurchased it already.

Verdict:

Highly recommended. Great leave on exfoliant. If you can find it at TJMaxx for less than 10$ definitely grab it. Also 20-25$ of amazon.com is a good price as well for a very well formulated treatment with glycolic acid (here).

5 out of 5.
