Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Night Cream

This is another negative post about Lancome. I've written before, how I am disappointed in quality of their products for such a high price tag. The jar I have was a deluxe sample (free gift with purchase), since I would never have picked it up myself. Here I just wanted to talk you through ingredient list.

Ingredients:

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Glycerin, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, PEG-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Rice Bran Oil, Corn Oil, Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid, Petrolatum, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Hydroxycitronellal, Magnesium Aspartate, Wheat Germ Oil, Polyacrylamide, Polycaprolactone, Panthenol, Benzyl Salicylate, Zinc Gluconate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Copper Gluconate, Sorbitan Tristearate, Sesame Seed Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, BHT, Laureth-7, Hexyl Cinnamal, Soybean Oil, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance

Excellent (only beneficial ingredients, proven research)
Good (mostly beneficial, not extensive research or just not quite outstanding properties)
OK (mostly thickeners, emulsifiers, mild preservatives, pH adjusters, all that is necessary, but not a skincare per se)
Bad (irritants and anything bad that shouldn't be in skincare, usually fragrance)

Ingredients Discussion:

This formulation features a lot of plant oils (rice bran, corn, wheat germ, sesame, soybean), though glycerin and mineral oil are much higher on the list of ingredients. Antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients here are not very impressive. Nothing very innovative, same old vitamins A, C, E, and not even that high on the list. Amount of fragrant components is overwhelming though (you get more fragrance than amount of antioxidants), making it very irritating for most people (even if you do not see redness, irritation is still happening!). I underscored colouring agents for you. They are not really harmful for the skin (that's why they are not marked in red), but they are higher on the list than any of the vitamins! Overall really not impressed with this formula. It would be moisturizing, but no anti-aging benefits, plus potential risk of irritation. Big companies spend huge amount money on research and development, and that's all they come up with.....

Packaging/Pricing/Consumer Thoughts:

Full size 50g (1.7oz) for ~50$ US. The jar packaging!! You would paying so much money for not an extraordinary formula, and even that small goodness the company included, would disappear in a few days (after you open the lid and product get exposed to air and light). Also I do not understand why it should be so expensive, since main ingredients are really cheap (glycerin and mineral oil). This cream is targeted at people with normal to dry skin, and have nice slip to it, leaving skin soft and nourished. Fragrance is quite strong. This product smells of hyacinth and jasmine (a beautiful scent, but not for a face skin care).

Verdict:

Not worth the price tag. Not recommended.

1,5 out of 5.
